event description
Nanyin music (literally “the music of the South”), also known as Nanguan or Xianguan, sung in the Minnan (Hokkien) dialect, has existed for more than 1,000 years in China and was brought to Singapore during the mid-19th century. Researcher Huang Xiu Qin of the Chinese Opera Institute has traced the history of its development in Nanyin in Singapore.
